Travel: Clermont, Fl to Wauchula FL (75 mi)
Back to one of our favorite parks. Peak Season starts 12/15 (they limit stays to 14 days for the winter) so we're here the day before and will be here for a month.
Got here and realized that we've traveled this road several times now - not too many pictures.

Fantasy of Flight started as a private collection and now has grown to a major attraction. Recently highlighted on TV.
Oranges, oranges, oranges...
Interesting architecture.
Arrived.

Travel: Sunshine Key, FL to Clermont, FL (362 mi)
One of our longer days.
Our Travel Map: www.tinyurl.com/SnSTravels (Green 50)
That's a Christmas Tree made from lobster pots.
Headed back to the mainland
Raining to the right...
raining to the left...
We'll just drive right between!!
One of the many drive-thru liquor stores we've seen.
Miles and miles of orange groves.
A very old motel sign.
Orange Squeezing Central.
Sun's out - that's our shadow
Arrival.

Historic Pigeon Key
In the early 1900s, the Overseas Railroad (the brainchild of Henry Flagler) was being constructed to connect Miami to Key West. This 5-acre island was the base camp for hundreds of men working on the project, until the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 wiped out as much as 40 miles of track. The rail was never rebuilt, and today the original tin-roofed, wood-clapboard buildings form a museum on the National Register of Historic Sites. See http://pigeonkey.net
The Key is located midway along the 7-mile bridge with a section of the old rail bridge still open as a walking bridge to the key.
Start at the old rail car that serves as the tour office for the Historic Site...
Walk (or take the offered flat-bottom boat) to the Key. Its is a beautiful and relaxing walk.... allow an hour for then stroll.
A vintage photo.

Leaving the Speedway
Building-murals are big in this area
That's a Florida Lobster outside an eatery in Tavernier.
Some views of the keys as we travel at the leisurely 45 MPH speed limit.
7-Mile Bridge
That's our Resort ahead on the right.

Travel: Wildwood, FL to Pompano Beach, FL (240 mi)
We avoid getting to a race track late in the day; we like time to land, level, and set up. Hence we usually stop at a resort near the track and hit the track early in the morning the next day.
Our best option for Homestead-Miami Speedway was a stop in Pompano Beach, FL. It looks like they took a couple blocks of downtown and converted it to an RV Park. A bit close and the first site they directed us to was way to small for our rig but they did okay on their second try and we had a pleasant night.

This is a shopping mall, Florida style. No need to protect against the winter.
That's what they think...
That's where we are headed; left a little later today to miss rush hour.
Typical island area of a highway cloverleaf.
No boring sound barrier walls here.
Look - A Hill!!
The LCD screen didn't photograph well... it said, "Don't be a turkey. Don't text and drive."
The front gate.
Our avenue.
